Mind is unique and extraordinary. Its abilities and possibilities are infinite and unimaginable. However, its blossoming depends on its will – Sankalpa. We can ‘will’ ourselves to enlightened heights or plunge ourselves into ignoble darkness. Siva-Sankalpa Suktam is a praise of this extraordinary mind and a prayer for divinizing its thoughts – Siva Sankalpam Astu. Shiva Sankalpa Suktam forms the first 6 mantras of the 34 chapters of Vajasaneyi Samhita of Shukla Yajur Veda. It is also found in the Rudrashtadhyayi of Rig Veda and regarded as an Upanishad. Swami Tejomayananda’s commentary explores its beauty and depth and concludes on a sweet note of surrendering the mind to the will of Siva-Sivasya Sankalpam Astu.
