The ‘Maitreyi Brahmana’ section of the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad, contains the teachings of the renowned sage Yajnavalkya to his wife Maitreyi. This is the very quintessence of the popular Upanishad.
Yajnavalkya declares his intention to renounce the household life, and his wife Maitreyi, filled with wonder and dispassion, beseeches Yajnavalkya for the knowledge of That for attaining which her husband intends to renounce all, including her.
The sage, after ascertaining his wife’s qualification as a seeker, teaches her the highest Self-knowledge.
This portion of the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad is a must study for all Seekers of Self-knowledge.
