Sloka Mahala Nauvan – the closing verses of the Guru Granth Sahib composed by Guru Teg Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru (1621-1675) through whom the word of God (Dhurki Bani) found expression are extremely poetic and sublime in their philosophical import.
These verses urge man to distinguish between the real and the unreal. Rendered in extreme pathos they remind the seeker of the ephemeral nature of this world.
Verse by verse the Nauvan Mahala awakens the Truth in the devotee and makes him unloosen his hold upon the world. The detachment created helps him to step into the Light Of Truth. This Truth is God, the permanent, the never-failing support of man. In turning to Him, the sorrows of the world fade away.
